The American Mink is the only mammal species present at the Chitose Aquarium. It is a member of the mustelid family, and is an adept swimmer. An alien species native to North America, they were bred at farms in Hokkaido to harvest their furs. But with many having escaped or being abandoned, they can now be found living in the wilds around Chitose River.
